In a plot twist that surprises absolutely no one who’s been paying attention, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)—the self-appointed referee of who’s a “hate group”—has been indicted for doing the exact thing they accuse everyone else of.
GWU! can’t make this up!!! Between 2014 and 2023, the SPLC secretly funneled more than $3 million of donations to a handful of people associated with: Ku Klux Klan, United Klans of America, Unite the Right, and even actual Nazis in the National Socialist Party of America.
It’s true! The group that built its brand on “dismantling white supremacy” was writing checks to the people they told the American public they were fighting.
The SPLC has for decades been the non-governmental so-called expert that the government, political organizations, and media have turned to for information on alleged hate groups.
Until recently, the SPLC was a primary source of research for the FBI on domestic extremism, though the FBI formally severed this relationship in late 2025, with Director Kash Patel citing concerns over partisan bias.
Big tech giants such as Google, YouTube, and Meta have used SPLC’s “Hate Map” and extremist designations to help inform their content moderation and fact-checking algorithms. While the mainstream news media routinely takes the SPLC’s ‘facts’ as gospel with no independent verification.
The fraudulent organization has also financed and influenced branch offices in Canada (The Canadian Anti-Hate Network), England (HOPE), Australia (Executive Council of Australian Jewry) and at the UN.
Grand Jury Drops the Hammer

America’s #1 Source of Newstainment was in court in Montgomery, Alabama, when a grand jury indicted the SPLC on 11 counts including wire fraud, bank false statements, and money laundering conspiracy.
“The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Using donor money to allegedly profit off Klansmen cannot go unchecked.”
In Your Face!

FBI Director Kash Patel didn’t hold back either, telling GWU! via MicroSoft Teams, “They lied to their donors, vowing to dismantle violent extremist groups, and actually turned around and paid the leaders of these very extremist groups.”
He added that the investigation is ongoing against all individuals involved.
Fake Accounts, Real Money

According to the indictment, the SPLC opened bank accounts tied to fictitious shell companies to secretly pay extremists—all while posting rage farming blogs about those same groups on their website. The fake companies included the creatively named; Fox Photography, Rare Books Warehouse, Center Investigative Agency (CIA, lol—ed) Tech Writers Group. Donors thought they were funding racial justice but it turns out, they were funding Klansmen. Wait, it gets worse.
The SPLC didn’t just pay them. They allegedly used these same extremist contacts to facilitate state and federal crimes.
So not only were donors fleeced—their money may have helped fund actual illegal activity.
Tiki Torch shines light on corruption

The SPLC’s website during that period claimed their mission was to be a “catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people.”
Meanwhile, behind the scenes: “Here’s your check, Mr. Klansman. Keep up the good work… for our fundraising.”
If convicted, the SPLC will lose the financial gains from their alleged fraud.
Acting Attorney General Blanche and FBI Director Patel announced the charges from Washington.
“Donors gave their money believing they were supporting the fight against violent extremism,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson. “That kind of deception undermines public trust and social cohesion.”
Translation: They played you. The group that spent decades calling everyone else a hate group now has to answer for allegedly funding actual hate groups.
